以前は健康状態にあった43歳の男性が、1年前から爪が真菌に感染していたために皮膚科に送られた。抗真菌薬 (terbinafine 250 mg) を服用した後でも、彼の状態は改善しませんでした。検査の際、医師らは彼の7本の指に小さな穴と爪の剥がれを発見した。また、左耳には赤い鱗状の斑点がいくつかあり、頭皮にはフケが少しあり、頭が少しかゆみを感じていました。他には特に肌トラブルは見当たりませんでした。
