헤르페스 손끝염 (herpetic whitlow) 은 HSV-1 또는 HSV-2 감염으로 인해 발생할 수 있습니다. HSV-1 흰가루병은 종종 바이러스와 접촉하는 의료 종사자에 의해 감염됩니다. 이는 구강 분비물에 노출된 치과 종사자와 의료 종사자에 의해 가장 흔히 감염됩니다. 이는 또한 HSV-1 구강 감염이 있는 엄지손가락을 빠는 어린이와 HSV-2에 감염된 생식기와 접촉한 20~30세 성인에게서도 자주 관찰됩니다.
