Virale Exanthem (Viral exanthem) is een wijdverspreide huiduitslag die zich op de huid van het lichaam voordoet en meestal bij kinderen voorkomt. Een exantheem kan worden veroorzaakt door gifstoffen, medicijnen of micro‑organismen, of het kan het gevolg zijn van een auto‑immuunziekte. Veelvoorkomende virussen kunnen huiduitslag veroorzaken als onderdeel van hun symptomen. Varicella‑zoster‑virus (waterpokken of gordelroos) en de bof moeten vóór de behandeling worden uitgesloten.
