ต้มเป็นก้อนสีแดงและมีหนองรอบ ๆ รูขุมขน มีความอ่อนโยน อบอุ่น และเจ็บปวด จุดสีเหลืองหรือสีขาวตรงกลางก้อนจะมองเห็นได้เมื่อก้อนเริ่มระบายหนองหรือมีการไหลของหนอง ในกรณีที่ติดเชื้อรุนแรง บุคคลอาจมีอาการไข้ ต่อมน้ำเหลืองบวม และอ่อนแรง
